Maritime Safety Information eLearning Training and Awareness Platform

At the 16th Southern African And Islands Hydrographic Commission (SAIHC) Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa, September 2019, the South African Navy Hydrographic Office (SANHO) presented its vision for training.

In 2019, the SANHO, in collaboration with the Institute of Maritime Technology (IMT), embarked on developing online Maritime Safety Information (MSI) e-learning training and awareness platform that will be available to SAIHC and international Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) member states. This is in line with the IHO Capacity Building Coordinator’s call for IHO member states to explore alternative methods to raise MSI awareness and conduct MSI training within the region.

The SANHO is proud to introduce the draft MSI e-Learning Platform to SAIHC member states. The e-Learning Platform seeks to provide learners with a broad overview of MSI. This is followed by a more in-depth look at the various aspects of MSI which includes the various types of MSI, roles and responsibilities of coordinators, MSI formats and the drafting of MSI messages.

Member states are invited to browse through the e-Learning Platform, using the unique user name and password as indicated in the correspondence issued.
